About ZUMC

ZHEJIANG UNIVERSITY OF MEDIA AND COMMUNICATIONS, ZUMC in short, was jointly funded by China's State Administration of Radio Film and Television and Zhejiang Provincial Government. The university has two campuses, located in Hangzhou and Tongxiang respectively, covering a total area of over 85 hectares with a floor space of 640,000 square metres.

ZUMC consists of 13 self-governing schools and colleges, 4 departments: The School of Broadcast Announcing and Presenting Arts, The School of Electronics and Information, The School of Animation, The School of Management, The School of Cultures & Communications, The School of Art Design, The School of Cultural Creativity, The School of Literature, The School of New Media, The School of Journalism and Communications, The School of Music, The School of Film, The School of TV Arts, The School of Continuing Education, Foreign Languages Teaching Centre, The Department of College Physical Education and Department of Social Sciences & Teaching. At present, there are about 14000 full-time enrolled students at our university. It also has The Media Optimization Collaborative Innovation Center, The National Animation Teaching Research Base, The Provincial Centre for Communication and Cultural Industry and other 9 research institutions at above provincial-level.

The cross disciplinary programs we offer cover the art, economics, technology and management. The four representative program groups include journalism, drama, film and TV studies, Communication and Information Systems and Interactive Media Technologies. The University received state approval to deliver master degree programs in 2011 and the first master students came to study on the MA Program of Journalism in 2012 .

112 professors, 266 associate professors are currently employed to serve the University. These also include 1 national outstanding teacher, 9 teachers enjoying special allowance of the State Council, 2 specially-appointed provincial professors, 36 teachers at varied levels of the Zhejiang province ‘151 talents project’ , 10 young and middle-aged academic leaders in provincial universities, 3 provincial outstanding teachers, 3 provincial teaching masters, 4 provincial teaching teams, and 2 provincial scientific research innovation teams. For teaching and administration, the university employs a total staff of 1200 to carry, support and work for the daily teaching and running of the entire school.

The University is well-equipped with advanced teaching and experimental facilities that guarantee its students a professional efficient, and people-friendly learning environment. The total value of educational instruments and facilities has reached 330 million RMB. The school was approved the right to set the media research laboratory by the State Administration of Press Publication, Radio, Film and Television. At a provincial level, five experimental teaching model centres, 50 laboratories including one for Announcing & Presenting with broadcast directing practice and one for Special Digital Effects are set up and in use. The 22-storey multi-functional Media and Broadcasting Tower that houses 17 broadcasting studios of various sizes has been a production base for the use of broadcasting radio and television programmes, teaching and research activities and social services. The Library of the University, with a collection of 1,473,000 books on various subjects, 1,150,000 e-books and about 62,000 audio-visual items, has become a regional resource centre for radio and television study and research.

The first aim of the University is to cultivate the media and broadcast talents. Nationwide multi-level cooperation with the broadcast industry has resulted in the establishment of over 251 cooperative bases for production, learning and research which provide students with practice and employment platforms. The School has cooperated with the National Radio and television system, established more than 251 teaching bases of researches and production practice, built a platform for students' professional practice and employment, one of those included in the construction project of national college students' off campus practice education base and 2 are Provincial College Students' outside practice education base, and 90 are listed in the National Undergraduate Innovative Training Program.

We also have partners in the UK, USA, Australia, Canada, Sweden, South Korea, France, Germany, Italy and other areas and countries. So far, over 50 institutions of higher education have established cooperation with ZUMC in student and teacher exchange projects. In 2015, the bachelor degrees project in Fashion and Accessories Design with Coventry University officially began enrollment. In the same year, the first provincial international and key construction program Broadcasting and Art (Bilingual), recruited the first batch of international students. In September 2017, the master degree project in Visual Arts with University of Bolton had the first cohort of students.

A strong teaching and research team, first class facilities and a student friendly atmosphere have won the University good reputation for its outstanding quality and an employment rate of over 93 percent. Many alumni have become prominent media professionals and industrial leaders.
